My answer to a deviantART poll…
Do you think that making art is not considered as a real work for many people?
Darlin’ you stepped on one of my peeves, LOL, the subject totally lights me up.
MOST people believe that art is not a real job - including those who have yet to experience anything other than that drive to create, who have not experienced first hand what it takes to SURVIVE as an artist. Says right on my business card “Art is no place for the weak”, because it’s a basic truth, you have to be an artist for love - getting to have a roof and food is a bonus. Most believe that because it’s for the love of it that it’s “fun”, that it’s “easy.” HAH - not so much. It is, at times, like giving birth and we know that’s not easy. People think there is no practical purpose for it… if that were the case we would all be living in a colorless soundless void.
The drive to create, to know, to experience, is fundamental to humans. We have in common a similar drive as physicists - to KNOW this world, this universe - they seek to understand with math and science, artists - through color and sound… we are the interpreters of life, and we need both sides to understand, because life is just too big to understand with just one side of your brain.
A rant I wrote a while back;
